jungle and river adventures
North of Placencia is the Hummingbird highway and within 45 minutes you
will be in a lush jungle. At the Blue Hole you will find an underground
river where you can hike, picnic or bird watch.
The Monkey River adventure departs the Inn by boat with a fascinating
trip through the Placencia lagoon and mangroves. There is a favorable
chance of seeing howler monkeys, tropical birds, iguanas and manatees.
The rainforest hike provides a close-up view of the rainforest flora
and fauna and wildlife. Enjoy lunch in Monkey River town as an added
treat.
You
can take a hike through the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. Here,
there are jaguars, ocelots, margays and howler monkeys in the forest.
Overhead in the canopy are tropical birds such as parrots, mot mots,
toucans and migratory scarlet macaws, great for birdwatchers. These
jungle trails consist of a variety of plants, flowers and trees.
