about us
When my mother, Susie Matthews, first came to Maya Breeze Inn, she fell in love with it. A year later when she returned to renovate the property she owned in the Placencia Peninsula, she stayed at Maya Breeze Inn again and felt that the charm was still here. Happily, Susie also found out that the inn was up for sale. When she returned to the US she told me about this quaint little place in a part of the world she described as “paradise”.
The first time I came to Maya Breeze Inn was with my friend Keith Williams. I instantly felt at home in the warm, friendly, welcoming atmosphere provided by the Inn's staff and locals. I could see the commitment and time they took in earning the good reputation they had achieved amongst their guests. My mom Susie had always said I should be part of a place like this, as it had always been a dream of mine, though at the time I did not have immediate funds to invest in taking over Maya Breeze Inn. However, when the opportunity arose to purchase the Inn, it wasn’t without its sorrows. My mom, Susie, passed away after a well fought battle with cancer. In her passing she entrusted me with her estate, and this along with personal savings, allowed me to take over what was an aspiration for both my mother and I.
When I returned to Maya Breeze Inn, I did so without my right hand man, Keith. Due to his commitment to the welfare and home of his children, he was unable to join me on this venture. After almost 2 weeks of research in the area, negotiations, and secure in the fact that all the staff would remain, I decided to dive in head first. On January 2007 I returned to Maya Beach for the third and final time as the proud, new owner of Maya Breeze Inn! I decided that the first order of the day would be to renovate and add the pool and pool bar. My objective is to continue building Maya Breeze Inn’s reputation as a welcoming, relaxing, feel-at-home, sand-between-your-toes experience, along with providing warm friendly service. My staff and I would like to welcome you to our piece of paradise and allow us to make this the best vacation you ever had! Keeping a dream alive... Dax
